We have set up our studio so we can be personally involved with every single project and get to be choosy about what work we take on — client or self-initiated.

Anton Repponen: Solving problems and creating new visual languages is my biggest passion. My architecture background makes me think of design in a structural and humanistic way. Everything will need to make perfect sense and will need to be designed around the user since the place I’m designing might end up being the place where some people will spend their entire lives.

Irene Pereyra: Growing up in Amsterdam I was constantly surrounded by modernist design, which very heavily influenced my taste and sensibilities. To me, great design is practical and starts with breaking things down to its simplest form, the straightest line from A to B. Anything superfluous makes me uneasy. I frequently have heated debates on how things can be done better with less stuff.

BVD / Sweden

We started out in 1996 as an award-winning design agency. As a consequence of being almost ridiculously curious, we evolved into something more. Today, we devote our lives to simplifying companies, brands, products and environments, making them clear and relevant. We developed our own method to achieve clarity, and it consists of four blocks:
The first block is to sort and confront the components of your challenge to analyze them from different angles. We do this the way a technician would; it’s just like disassembling a piece of machinery. We ask the simple, stupid questions: why is this tiny cog placed here? How does this thing really work? And once we’ve figured out how your brand works, we reshape and reorganize the pieces for better clarity and power.
The second block is finding the core, the factor that can’t be reduced. The core could be a lot of things: a function, a quality or an attribute.
The third block is exploring that one-and-only feeling, something that hooks into your heart and evokes emotion. We are experts at finding this emotional driver.
Helping this driver gain power and aiming it in the right direction is the fourth block: maximizing impact.

Over the course of her 40-year career, Jennifer Morla has tapped into the hidden strengths of word and image. Her work can’t be pigeon-holed into a specific style because she responds so directly to the particular needs of each project, but one common thread is her creative use of letters and visuals – together, in isolation, or in stark contrast. She frequently wields the power of counterpoint, playing word and image against (and for) each other, producing a whole that is even more engaging than its parts.
Originally from Manhattan, Morla received a conceptual art education at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford and her BFA in Graphic Design from the Massachusetts College of Art. She moved to San Francisco in 1978 and worked as a designer for PBS/KQED where she created show identities and on-air openings. Three years later, she was hired as Art Director for Levi Strauss & Co. After leaving Levi’s, she opened Morla Design and continues to design there every day.

Manual is a design and branding studio based in San Francisco. We help our clients express themselves and their products through iconic brand identities and beautiful experiences. Our work strives to clarify purpose, build meaning, and stir up curiosity and emotion.
We are an intentionally small, independent team of designers and art directors. We specialize in building identities, by working with clients early on to help them define their brand, and partnering all the way through execution across key touch points. We also work with global brands on special projects and initiatives that demand fresh creative thinking.

We believe that a successful relationship is born out of collaboration and partnership. We listen to our clients carefully and dig deep to understand their objectives and audience. We are in constant pursuit of differentiation. We want our clients to stand out, not just fit in.

We have a carefully selected network of expert individuals who we partner with to meet the specific needs of a project, including writers, strategists, photographers, animators, filmmakers and creative technologists. This approach allows us to stay nimble while delivering world-class creative. We keep it in the family and work collaboratively with our clients and partners.

We create design with meaning.

Great design speaks to your head, and your heart. It makes you feel different, and think differently. It makes you remember, and respond.

That’s what we aim for: to go from insight to ideas to design that connects. To craft things with intelligence, sensitivity and precision.

It doesn’t happen in isolation. That’s why we work collaboratively with our clients, and with each other. As an international collective, we take a global outlook. We’re open. We share. We learn.

The result: intelligent, effective design that makes a lasting impression.
